2 Day Job Fair Held at SOD Center

One-Stop Employment Opportunity

Columbiana County, Ohio companies and organizations collaborate.

The Sustainable Opportunity Development Center (SOD Center), Columbiana County Port Authority, and Columbiana County Economic Development are partnering to provide two regional job fairs for individuals seeking employment in Columbiana County.

Penny Traina, Executive Director of the Columbiana County Port Authority, explained, “We are excited to offer a one stop job fair environment for potential job seekers as well as the opportunity to meet many different companies; this is an innovative way to meet the needs of both the employers and potential employees.” Many area employers have been in need of workers to fill empty positions, and with the recent announcement of the Lordstown plant closure many area workers are in need of a new job. With the aim of connecting area workforce to employers in need, the job fair partnership between SOD, the Port Authority and Columbiana County Economic Development began.

Job fair participants will have the opportunity to gather information, fill out applications, and potentially have on-the-spot interviews with fifteen participating companies: American Standard, BOC Water Hydraulics, Butech Bliss, Compco Quaker, CTM Labeling Systems, East Liverpool City Hospital, Envelope 1, Fresh Mark, Heritage Thermal Services, Hickey Metal Fabrication, Mac Trailer, Metal & Wire Products, Pennex, PhD Mfg,, and TruCut.

Julie Needs, Executive Director of the SOD Center, says area employers are trying to fill many different types of positions. “Just from the companies participating in these job fairs we see a see a wide range of opportunities with competitive wages and full benefits.” Some of the vacancies area employers are hoping to fill are: Machinists, Welders, Assemblers, Materials Handlers, General Production/Laborers, Purchasing/Supply Chain Management, Estimating, Receiver and Shipper, Punch Press Operator, Service Technicians, E & I Technicians, Production Supervisor, Mechanical Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Operations Director, Field Chemist, and more.

In addition to the hiring companies, several area service organizations will be present to offer assistance. Ohio Means Jobs Columbiana County will have laptops available to assist with any online applications that may be required by an employer. Mahoning/Columbiana Training Association, Columbiana County Job and Family Services, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, New Castle School of Trades and Columbiana County Educational Service Center will also have resources and representatives available.

The Job Fair will take place on two separate days: Wednesday, January 23rd, 1pm-6pm, and February 6th, 1pm- 6pm, at the SOD Center, 440 Pennsylvania Ave, Salem. No registration is needed, and it is recommended to bring multiple copies of a resume if you have one.
